In what is East Lancashire’s equivalent to the never ending story, Steve Kean has again reiterated the belief that Junior Hoilett can be persuaded to extend his Ewood Park career beyond the end of his current deal.

Hoilett’s contract is up in the summer and after MONTHS of negotiations no agreement was made between player and club which has led to many a glancing look from elsewhere.

The player is concerned about the direction the club is heading (aren’t we all?!) and wants to see some ambition before committing himself to a new deal but with none forthcoming this see saw tug of war looks like dragging on till the summer.

But despite it all, Steve Kean is… wait for it… positive.

When asked if Rovers had given up hope on Junior signing a new deal, Kean told the LT – ‘Not at all, no.’

‘We would like to think that the way that he’s playing, he’s been playing with a spring in his step and he’s back to the form that he had before the transfer window opened so we’ve not given up on that.

‘There’s no reason why, moving forward, we can’t agree something that we can get pen put to paper on at the appropriate time.

‘I think what he’s got to do is just forget about everything and just make sure he’s playing and performing the way he is.

‘We’ve not given up and if it gets to the end of the season and we are where we think we’re going to be, there’s no reason why Junior can’t agree a contract with us.’
