Rovers defender Matt Kilgallon has been thrust in an unlikely opportunity following the confirmation of Grant Hanley’s three game suspension.

Kigallon has been but a spectator in the main this season with the prefered central defensive axis of Hanley and his partner Scott Dann proving reliable so far this season.

But with Hanley now out of the next three fixtures against Charlton, Blackpool and Middlesbrough the chance is there for the York born defender to stake a claim for a regular slot.

Kilgallon told the BBC – ‘You wait patiently and train hard. If you don’t help yourself and you’re moaning and sulking, it’s no good.’

‘Killa’ has revealed he was warned about the good form of his two main positional competitors when signing in the summer but with a good player development blighted only by injury Matt should prove to be able back up for the side in Hanley’s absence.

‘When I came in, the gaffer said to me that Grant and Scott had played really well at the end of last season and kept the team up,’ Killa continued.

‘He said he was going to start with them and I said that wasn’t a problem.’

With Yann Songo’o also working his way into contention the position of centre back shouldn’t prove to be a problem for the club this season.
