Last Chance Rovers Saloon?Again?

Football can often have a touch of fortune involved; with players sometimes benefiting from other misfortunes maybe this might happen with Blackburn Rovers shortly?

As regular readers to the site will know I’m a big fan of Matt Derbyshire’s but with the sending off of Stephane Henchoz against Newcastle United on Saturday which saw us 2-0 down at half time with ten men I couldn’t help but think any hope I had of seeing him given an extended chance in this match had all but died? However the youngster was given a chance and brought on at half time in place of Shabani Nonda albeit to play in a withdrawn midfield role out on the right but played well.

The other man, and the main man of this articles focus is former captain Andy Todd. The almost forgotten man at Rovers, but still club captain was named amoung the substitutes and also entered that game at half time as David Bentley was scarified. The only way I saw Todd playing this game would have been as a result of a red card (as it proved), an injury, a ploy to hold on to a lead we may have had or as a means of a time wasting operation late on, so although the chances of any happening were probable I didn’t honestly think many were possible in his case.

Todd looked as though he had played is last game for Rovers sometime ago but the Henchoz sending off gave him a chance to come back in, so with the Swiss defender now set for suspension (Cup tied in the UEFA Cup anyway) and Zurab Khizinashvilli currently injured and likely to be considered a doubt for Nancy during the week Todd looks like having one final chance to stake his claims to be a part of Rovers future?

If Todd does play the next game and performs, unless Mark Hughes has no two ways about it already decided Todd is not in his plans at all (which he has always expressed to the contrary) then he should in theory carry on which could see a case of déjà vu for Todd, after he had earned a reprieve earlier in his Rovers career when he seemed certain for the exit door. Could lightening strike twice and can Todd yet earn a second stay of execution?

As I say football can see others sometimes profit from others misfortune, could Toddy be one of these men to profit?
