Blackburn boss Mark Hughes could be set to make a surprise last minute bid to hijack Middlesbrough`s proposed move for Robert Huth.

German International Huth looked certain for a £5 million move to Middlesbrough before the World Cup Finals; however the deal hit a last minute snag with concerns over his fitness, so the deal was called off.

In recent days it has been mooted that the deal could be resurrected with Huth possibly beginning his career on Teesside initially in a loan capacity.

However with Hughes already making it perfectly clear that he intends to add further players to his squad, the recent 5-0 friendly thrashing by Olympiakos could now see him looking to add the big central defender to his ranks.

Another name being linked to Ewood Park is contract rebel Andy Webster. The 24-year-old Scottish International`s agent claims the Hearts defender is interesting Hughes. A fee of around £200,000 is likely to secure the services of the player who will be unable to transfer to another club north of the boarder. Wigan Athletic are also reportedly keen.
