Tom Lawrence’s time with Blackburn Rovers is now over with the former Manchester United forward returning to Leicester City at the end of his loan spell with Blackburn.

His initial loan (which started in August) was extended by another four weeks early in January but at the end of this he’s now back with his Barclays Premier League side having decided (along with his agent) not to stay on at Ewood Park. That’s the message portrayed by Paul Lambert anyway.

Lambert told The Official Blackburn Rovers Website only extending by a month worried him this could happen: “Tom is going back. As I said at the time it was always going to be a dangerous thing because his agent wanted this one month thing.

“I knew it was dangerous, it was never going to work that because this can happen.

As Lambert’s also signed some attacking players the Rovers manager feels (with Tony Watt the most recent arrival) he might have been worried about his first team chances as he wanted to play regularly with the European Championships coming up and that might not happen over the rest of the season at Ewood.

Lambert added: “Obviously Tom wants to exercise it as well because he’s got the Euros to come and has probably seen Tony come in and thought maybe that’s his chances limited.

“But credit to him, I thought he was excellent when he come on and so he goes away with a big thanks from myself, he gave us everything and that is testament to himself.

There’s no point him staying if the twenty two year old isn’t going to play enough to benefit himself or us is it, I think he’s a quality footballer though who would’ve benefited us but Lambert’s taking us in another direction now isn’t he.
