Rovers manager Gary Bowyer has confirmed that winger Ben Marshall will be back in the matchday squad for tomorrow;s final league game with Wigan Athletic at Ewood Park.

Marhsall, who endured a difficult start to life at Rovers, was excellent over the Christmas period before cruelly picking up an ankle injury that ruled him out of any meaningful contribution for the rest of the campaign.

But after knuckling down and intensive rehab, the player is now ready to start again – with his aim of making the matchday squad before the end of the season now a reality after surprising the medical staff with a fast paced recovery.

‘Ben Marshall will be back in the squad,’ revealed the Rovers boss on Thursday afternoon.

‘Whether he gets on the subs bench I’m not too sure just yet but he’s certainly back in the squad.

‘The amount of work he has done to get here when it could have been very easy for him to take it easy the last two weeks. He has pushed himself beyond limits to make sure he has got that final place in the squad for the last game of the season so that is credit to him.

‘That is the mentality of the people that we have brought into the squad, he epitomises that and we are delighted for him.

‘Dickson Etuhu has trained, David Dunn has trained, Jason Lowe has trained, I think the only two that are probably going to miss out are Adam Henley, who has just started back, and Tommy Spurr.

‘The squad on the whole are competitive and there’s a good spirit and that is something that we’ve got to keep and maintain.’

Rovers need a miracle tomorrow to make their target of a top six spot but a win will put them on 70 points for the season, which will mark a sizeable improvement on last season’s dire showing and end the season on a happy note.
