We here at Vital Blackburn have been fortunate enough to obtain an interview with former Blackburn Rovers striker, and Swedish Legend Martin Dahlin, here is Part One.

THE PLAYING CAREER

Firstly I would like tell you how much of an honour it is for me to be able to ask you, such a legend of the game and a former Blackburn Rovers star some questions. Thank you for taking the time to do this, I can understand and appreciated just how busy you are so I hope this will not hold you too long. With this in mind this is what makes you doing this all the more appreciated.

You were one of the top footballers of your generation, without question one of Sweden’s greatest ever but what made you want to be a footballer to begin with?

I really don’t know. I have always wanted to be a footballer for as long as I can remember.

When did you realise you had a very special talent?

I realised when I was 12-years-old that I was better than the others.

What was the highlight of your playing career?

The World Cup ’94, Sweden took a bronze medal and a scored 4 goals.

What was the lowest point of your career? Maybe a stupid question, as I would assume your career ending injury would be the answer really?

My career ending injury when I was only 29 was for sure the lowest point.

We’ve spoken about your career highlight but what do you feel was your biggest achievement during your playing career?

The World Cup bronze medal and my 29 goals in 60 games for Sweden.

Who was the best manager you worked under?

Tommy Svensson and Tord Grip (Sweden).

And the worst manager you worked under?

I do not like to criticize people, I am sure he did his best!

What about the manager you wish you could have worked under past or present?

Don’t know.

Did you ever have any superstitions or rituals before games?

No.

As we all know your career was so tragically cut short through injury. If you don’t mind my asking how did you feel at the time?

It was tough! But although I retired early I was lucky to experience a lot. I played professional football in Sweden, Germany, Italy and England as well as the World Cup, European Championship, European Cups and the Olympics.

And how do you feel now?

I feel good! Unfortunately it ended a bit early but I can look back and be happy with my career
.

There is PLENTY more of this Martin Dahlin interview to come, so keep a look out for further instalments shortly.
