Blackburn Rovers have been hit with the crushing news that Steven Reid will be out for another four months due to his back injury.

The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland International has not featured for Rovers since the defeat to Chelsea at Ewood Park at the end of August, having picked up an injury whilst on International duty with Ireland a week later.

After a second scan it has been revealed that he has a stress fracture of the back so we can’t expect to see him turning out again for Rovers again until at least February. Early fears that Reid could indeed miss this remainder of the 2006-2007 season may yet be a reality?

This will be a massive blow not only to the player himself and Mark Hughes but all connected to Rovers as Reid played such a prominent role in last seasons successful sixth placed finish in the Premiership. His quality and experience were thought to be vital again this term as Rovers look to push on from last season and mount a serious assault on the UEFA Cup.
