Blackburn Rovers secured victory over Oxford United in today’s final League One game of the 2017/18 season at Ewood Park.
With Tony Mowbray’s boys having already secured automatic promotion back to the Championship for next season, Wigan Athletic do pip us to the title by two points, so although there will be some disappointment at not taking maximum points in a couple of games this year that would’ve made the difference on that front, promotion was the aim and it was achieved by some margin.
Darragh Lenihan struck his first goal for the club in the 12th minute of the game, and although James Henry did get a single half leveller, substitute Jack Payne opened his own Blackburn account with just under 15 minutes remaining.
The final whistle blew with the scores at 2-1 so it was another three points for Mowbray’s men and all eyes can now turn to next season and life back in the second tier of football.
