Former Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Jansen has found the hunger for the game again, a hunger that has been missing for the past three-years.

Jansen had previously said earlier in the year that he wasn’t missing the game, but was keeping his options open. Now, as we all know, he is training with Rovers again in the aim of rebuilding his career, and he has more of a chance now that he has the hunger back again.

Jansen told BBC Radio Lancashire: The hunger’s there which was missing.

“I was so disillusioned with the game. I didn’t enjoy coming into training because things weren’t going as I wanted and I thought that was it.

“I fell out of love with the game because things weren’t going my way and I needed time away from it and I thought that was it.

“I was hanging up my boots and I didn’t want to play the game ever again. But after two-and-a-half years I have got the hunger back and I’ve got itchy feet.

“I can’t just sit about doing nothing. All I know is football, so I thought I needed to give it another crack.

The 31-year-old was NEVER the same again after the motorcycle accident that almost killed him in 2002, just when his career looked as though it was stepping up to an even greater level. Matty tried to carry on, but after a loan spell with Coventry City was eventually released by Rovers and signed for Bolton Wanderers but left after only four-months with the club as he failed to mentally heal as much as anything.

It is going to be a VERY long shot, and the chances of him resurrecting his career at Ewood Park would probably be around 50:50 at best but the Ewood favourite isn’t going to give up without a shot and his ultimate ambition is to once again pull on the blue and white kit again, something that we’d ALL love and will hope for, even if we doubt it’ll happen.

He added: “Most definitely (the chance to play for Rovers again). I have friends at the club and have always looked at how they are doing.

“If you are asking for my ultimate ambition it would be to wear that blue and white strip again.

Manager Paul Ince isn’t ruling this out and still feels that Matty has something to offer, but it really would be fairytale stiff if it could happen!!!
