Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has once again voiced his desire to leave Rovers in January.

The 31-year-old’s agent started speculation about the strikers Rovers future last week and this has only been fuelled by what Rovers manager Sam Allardyce, McCarthy himself and his South African International (and former Rovers midfielder) team-mate Aaron Mokoena have since said, all of which point to an exit from Ewood Park in the January Transfer window. McCarthy has again spelled this out talking ahead of his return to International football.

McCarthy told reporters in Johannesburg: “In my opinion I am better than what we have at Rovers, but unfortunately the manager prefers a different style of player.

“I am not the type of player he wants and that is why I am not playing.

Personally I would like to see Benni more involved for Rovers, however, he’s right he isn’t a player that suits Allardyce and his continued outburst aren’t going to help him!! Benni has also confirmed that he’d been happy to move to Premier League strugglers Portsmouth who are understood to be interested in signing him (along with others).

He added: “Portsmouth are going through a bad patch but are still a top side.

“I have discussed them with (South Africa captain) Aaron Mokoena and at this stage it is still a rumour.

“There are other clubs in England and Europe that have shown interest in me.

You’re helping to talk your way further out of Big Sam’s thoughts Benni, however, you also have to remember that Rovers will only sell you if it’s in our best interests and not yours!!
