Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy has been rather quiet for a little while, so it’s about time he said something. And he claims that Galatasaray are interesting in signing him.

The South African (who towards the end of last season said he wanted to finish his career at Ewood Park) is claiming that Tugay had told him that the Turkish club were interested in signing him (something that doesn’t surprise him) but no approach has yet been made to Rovers.

McCarthy told the Daily Mail: “I’m unaware of any offer, but it doesn’t surprise me because my friend Tugay told me I was on their shopping list two months ago.

McCarthy is understood to be one of those that is reportedly unhappy under Paul Ince and could lead the so-called mutiny from Ewood. Well Benni, THEY DO play Champions League Football and we all know how much you love this!!!

Meanwhile (and being on the subject of Galatasaray which ties in nicely) Tugay has been assured by Rovers manager Paul Ince that he still has an important role to play at Ewood this season both on and off the pitch.

The Maestro might now be 37-year-old, which makes him the second oldest outfield player in the Premier League this season (behind Hull City’s 40-year-old Dean Windass!!!) but Ince is adamant that he can still do a job when asked, but this will come in specific matches.

Ince told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It all depends on what formation you want to play. There are certain formations where I could have Tugay sitting in midfield.

“It’s horses for courses. It depends on what teams we are playing against.

“But the lad has definitely got quality, that’s for sure, and it’s certainly something we can use throughout the season.

“It was slightly different for me because I was more of a tackler, a box-to-box player, so my legs used to go and I’d struggle a bit!

“Tugay is not that sort of player. He’s more of a sprayer and runs the game that way.

“But I’m glad he’s in my side and I’m sure, throughout the season, he will be used.

However, it is not just on the pitch that Incey is looking to make full use of the Maestro’s quality as he also feels that this can be fully utilised of it as well, which will also be beneficial to the club.

He added: “Tugay can definitely play a part for us – not just on the field, but off the field.

“The lads look up to him and it’s important that, even if he’s not playing, he’s making sure things are right in the dressing room and stuff like that.

“But when he does comes on, his variety of passing is different class and I’m pleased I’ve got him for another year.
