Even though Blackburn Rovers striker Benni McCarthy admits that technically Robbie Savage was the worst footballer he had ever seen he admits that Rovers miss his presence.

Prior to Robbie Savage returning to Ewood Park with his new club Derby Country (a match Rovers won 3-1) McCarthy couldn’t resist a little tongue in check dig at Savage, but concedes that his presence at the club is missed.

McCarthy told The Sun (on Saturday): “We miss his spirit and commitment even though technically he is the worst player I have ever seen in my life – and he knows it.

“He has no skill at all. We all have more skill than him. But he works awfully hard for the team and it makes us work even harder.

“Even when the chips were down, he always seemed to make everyone laugh – including the manager.

“He had a dig at everyone and that is the part we miss the most.

“Sav is a fantastic boy and the dressing room has gone awfully quiet since he left.

“It is still exciting, it is fun – but Stinky is not there.

“With him in the side, he makes us work a bit harder which is always good. So we are looking forward to having our old players back.

Savage will always be welcomed back to Ewood when he does return, as he was on Saturday afternoon.
