McCarthy Says Best Is Yet To Come

With Mark Hughes recently stating that maybe too much is being expected of Blackburn Rovers new boy Benni McCarthy, the player himself has said how there is more to come, with him perhaps disappointed not to have scored more.

The popular South African, a bargain buy for a price thought to be as little as £2.5 million, the same price Rovers would receive for Shefki Kuqi when he was sold to Crystal Palace, which, with all due respect to the Finnish International, when you think about it Kuqi isn’t quite in the league of the former Porto man. McCarthy would say:

I’ve two goals, and it’s nothing to complain about, but with my standards I would love to have had maybe four.”

I’m new at the club and I’m still adapting to the team, the other players and the system.”

I’m starting to feel my way, communicating with and understanding my team-mates, which is what I’m hoping for and what I want, so it is early days.”

If it was up to me I would love to score a hat trick every game, but unfortunately that’s not possible.”

So you have to work hard, and with this team I feel we can achieve great things and they can turn me into a better player.”

McCarthy, a player of immense quality with a proven track record which many other current or former top strikers could struggle to match, has already become a fans favourite, which if we are being honest he became the minute he put pen to paper and became a Rovers player.

After scoring two goals in five games, despite him saying himself he would have wanted more I think the vast majority, if not all would have settled for this as he is also performing well.

Having confessed to already having learned a lot in his brief time with Rovers, he would also say:

There’s certainly more to come from me. That’s what I hope for, and that’s what Blackburn are hoping for.”

I just hope I can help them have a fantastic season as they did last season.”

In football anything is possible, and I think we are even capable of top four. We are gaining experience by playing in the UEFA Cup, and so this season we are more optimistic.”

We want to try and reach the Champions League, and that would be brilliant for the club, for the players and fans.”

If McCarthy can keep scoring the goals, and contributing to others that lead Rovers back to the highest tier of European football his legend status, which is probably already likely to happen despite it only being early days in his Rovers career, it would unquestionably be assured.
