Blackburn Rovers left-back Jay McEveley has once gain set his sights on a regular first team place at Ewood Park following a good display against Everton at the weekend.

After being given another chance to impress Mark Hughes the Scottish under-21 and “B” International McEveley has spoken (and not for the first time) of his determination to fight to keep a first team place:

It is all about putting seeds in the gaffer’s mind, every time I get my opportunity that is what I’m looking to do.

I want to play week-in week-out for Blackburn because I feel that it is something I need to achieve with the injuries I’ve had.

After getting in and playing regularly under Souness but then coming out and having these two injuries I feel like I’ve had a bit of unfinished business here trying to get back in the team.

I’ll wait and see now, I’ve got my opportunity and now I’ll see what the gaffer does on Saturday.”

Serious injuries have hampered Jay’s progress in recent years but at only 21-years of age he still has a lot to offer. It is now down to him to take the chance he has and step up to the plate and perform! With David Bentley suspended for the Arsenal match on Saturday meaning Brett Emerton will probably push forward into midfield and Lucas Neill revert to right-back Jay will have a very good chance of retaining his place.

Personally I can still see Jay’s best position being in the middle; think he has the qualities needed to make it as a central defender. He’s strong, powerful, is not afraid to make a tackle, can head the ball and has pace.
