Mickey Gray Set to Keep Rovers Place

With Lucas Neill struggling with his hamstring injury Michael Gray seems set to retain his Blackburn Rovers left-back berth? at least for the Feyenoord match.

Gray, Sunday’s Man of the Match had what is widely regarded as his best game for Rovers, not only of this season but for sometime which had left Mark Hughes with a difficult decision to make.

Neill is continuing to have treatment on his hamstring injury so with Hughes leaning towards taking the safe option and giving the Australian extra time to recover (Rovers don’t play again until Saturday 2nd December, the game with Feyenoord on Thursday aside) Mickey Gray looks set to continue with Hughes being saved the decision on whether or not to “drop” Gray.

It may be that we’ll be without Lucas again, but we may get some better news nearer the time,” said Hughes.

I thought Mickey came in and did very well. It has been difficult for him this season, but I have to say that whenever he’s been called upon or whenever I’ve disappointed him by not playing him, he has always come into training with the same attitude and got on with his day-to-day work and waited for his chance. When that chance came on Sunday he took it really well.”

With Neill leaving soon Gray is looking to stake his claim for what will be the vacant left-back spot. More performances like that shown against Spurs will leave him very much in with a chance of doing just that?
