Thoughts that Paul Allen (not the former Tottenham Hotspur footballer but the Microsoft co-founder) could be behind a bid to takeover Blackburn Rovers have been denied.

News of a possible takeover at Rovers first surfaced some months ago, but earlier this week this came back with a vengeance, with the official Blackburn Rovers website also confirming talks were ongoing.

It is understood that an American Consortium are behind a proposed takeover, but a spokesman on Allen’s behalf has denied him being the man leading this bid. Michael Nank (Allen’s spokesman) has ruled out a move for Rovers, he said:

Mr Allen is not interested nor involved in any kind of takeover offer for Blackburn Rovers or any other English football club.”

Meanwhile and TOTALLY changing the subject, although it is still on the topic of Blackburn! Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire was again an unused substitute for England at the European Under-21 Championships on Thursday.

As Derbs looked on, England looked odds on to book a place in the Semi-Finals after taking a 2-0 lead against their Italian counterparts. However, Italy fought back to earn a 2-2 draw and could have won.

Derbs will hope to play a part in the final group match (but hopefully not our final match altogether) with Group leaders (and winners Serbia.) Victory will guarantee England progress although a point could be enough?
