Tommy Spurr was ‘buzzing’ to make his first start of the season for Blackburn against Blackpool but was left with ‘mixed emotions’ as this couldn’t have come in a win….

If you haven’t managed a start all season, in fact a first-team start in some 10-months or so, you would be delighted to return wouldn’t you? It goes without saying that Spurr obviously was but has told the Official Website that his return would have been better had it come in a win, not the one-one draw!

A failure to take the many chances we created costing us.

‘It would have been nice to get the win and come back into a winning side but it wasn’t to be.

‘We battled hard and created quite a few chances but didn’t take them which cost us in the end.’

Spurr’s troubles date back to the tail end of last season, a groin injury meant he missed the final three games of that season and then another injury of a similar nature in pre-season has hampered him since.

More than once the 27-year-old has been close to a return only to suffer ‘setbacks’ on his journey, which he’s admitted has been ‘really hard’ and one the ‘most frustrating periods’ of his career but now that he’s back it’s all worth it and was definitely an experience he enjoyed.

A win would have ‘topped everything off.’

Having to through it and starting a game, best of all at Ewood, more games are the target.

‘Today is a stepping stone, it has been my aim for ages just to get a game, so now I’ve done that the plan is obviously to play again and get a run of games.

‘I enjoyed it, I’m glad to be back in, I’m just disappointed not to get the win as that would have topped everything off.’

Will Spurr be involved again against Norwich tomorrow, or do you think Bowyer could switch things around? Two games in three or four-days could be a bit too much for Spurr at this stage of his recovery perhaps?

Then again if he’s fit enough it’s not a situation the defender isn’t unfamiliar with is it….
