Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena soon revealed that he has become former Blackburn Rovers midfielder Aaron Mokoena by confirming that he’s agreed a move to Portsmouth.

The South African International (as had been expected) is leaving Ewood Park after four-years to join Premier League rivals Portsmouth on a FREE transfer when his contract expires at the end of June. The 28-year-old revealed that he was moving to Fratton Park after our 0-0 draw with West Bromwich Albion on Sunday afternoon.

Mokoena told Radio Rovers: “I can leave in peace knowing that I’ve been honest to the team, I’ve been loyal and the team has been loyal to me.

“I am going to Portsmouth, I am going there to play, it is what every player wants to do.

“I have decided it is time to move on for me. As we know we have a World Cup in South Africa and I have to play, I have to play week in, week out.

“So it is going to be a good challenge for me going down to Portsmouth and we’ll see how it goes.

“The good thing for me is that I have three years with Pompey and I’ll be going there to do my job, as I did my job in Blackburn.

“The fans have been fantastic for me in Blackburn and I’ll never forget it.

During his four seasons with Rovers Mokoena made 139 appearances and scored two goals and his stunning strike against Sunderland in the FA Cup this season earned him the Goal of the Year Award.

The Axe has always done what has been asked of him at Ewood but I’d be surprised if that many of us are honestly going to miss the South African captain that much? However, I’m sure that you’ll all join me in saying thanks the Axe for his efforts during his time with Rovers and also join me in wishing him all the best.
