Month of the Season

When asked to simply leave the Month, which you feel saw Rovers have their Month of the Season most felt?

February 2007 should be the Award Winner! So congratulations I guess go to Sheffield United, Everton, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal and Portsmouth for helping make this the month to remember!

No too much interest in this category I’m afraid to say, but the interest that we did have was pretty unanimous in the thinking that February 2007 was our best of the season.

In what had been a stop start season really up until February, the month started with what many thought could well be a season turning moment (and maybe it was?) when Morten Gamst Pedersen scored a corker of a free kick in injury time to deny Sheffield United a point and earn us all three!

We followed this up with an away defeat to Everton (so maybe hopes had been raised to soon?!?!) then came the 3-2 defeat in the UEFA Cup against Bayer Leverkusen, but with this tie being away it was still viewed as an excellent result.

A trip to Arsenal came next in the FA Cup and our performance of the highest order (maybe not in terms of the prettiness of it, but the effectiveness and tactics being spot on!) to see us earn a 0-0 draw. Next up came another low point, but a very good performance nonetheless against Leverkusen saw us do everything but score (not that we didn’t have the chances) and we bowed out of the UEFA Cup on away goals?

We bounced back with a fantastic display against Portsmouth a few days later as we avenged out opening day 3-0 defeat with a 3-0 win of our own, although Shabani Nonda could and maybe should have got a hattrick but David James denied him by saving his penalty.

The month ended with the cream of the crop, the 1-0 FA Cup replay victory over Arsenal thanks to Benni McCarthy’s late winner! We went on to win the opening two games March, so February saw us gain momentum and gradually build on it.
