The nominations are still be taken for other Awards, but the Vital Blackburn Awards for 2006-2007 continue to be dished out with the

Most Improved Player of the Season

When asked to simply leave the name of your Most Improved Player of the Season most felt?

Aaron Mokoena should be the Award Winner! So congratulations to Mokoena on winning this Award.

Mokoena and Brett Emerton (who I personally feel deserves an honorary mention here at least, for a vast improvement even though he played in a different position this season to the one he has in previous seasons) battled it out for this accolade but it was the South African International that just won it.

The Axe has not always been a favourite with many people, and has all to often been ridiculed for his footballing talent, often (and VERY unfairly for me) viewed as a liability even. So for him to have improved to the extent to win this shows he really must have shown major improvement. Although in fairness to the Axe he rarely got an extended run in the side until he did last season, and he took it with both hands.

With Robbie Savage out with a broken leg we were VERY worried, and some even petrified at the thought of the Axe coming in for him but he grew into the role, his confidence soared and he became a vital member of the starting XI, excelling with the new found responsibility and showed that he really is another of Mark Hughes’ bargain discoveries, and he even scored!
