Blackburn boss Tony Mowbray has signed an extended contract at Ewood Park.

Arriving initially on an 18 month deal in February, Mowbray’s penned a fresh two year contract at Ewood Park. This isn’t surprising, given the fact his assistant, Mark Venus, himself committed to a two year contract when appointed as his assistant recently – a number two isn’t going to have a longer deal than the boss.

Mowbray wasn’t able to keep Blackburn in the Championship but he was insistent he wished to remain at Ewood, owners Venky’s were also committed to him and backed him, which is basically proven by this new deal.

Commenting after his new deal Mowbray told the Official Website: ‘The job is to bounce back straight away. I needed some reassurances that we wouldn’t be selling all of our players and that we had some budget to try to strengthen the team if we could, having lost 12 players through either loans going back or people out of contract.’

Adding: ‘There has to be some restructuring internally, because we’re now in League One. But ultimately the aim is to build the departments up as I like them to work, to focus on the recruitment of players that can push the club to where we want to be.’

This contract for Mowbray, 53, also includes the option of a further 12 months.

Another Blackburn friendly has also been announced as the club has revealed a trip to Carlisle will now take place in late July.

Blackburn will head to Brunton Park for a meeting with Carlisle, victors over Rovers’ U23 side in last season’s Checkatrade Trophy, on Friday 28th July, kicking off at 7:45pm.
