Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen is hoping that he will be given the chance to represent New Zealand at the Olympic Games in Beijing.

Nelsen has been included in his countries provisional squad for the Olympics, and he hopes that he can be given the chance to lead his country. However, his involvement would be dependant on Rovers agreeing to this, as he would miss the start of the 2008-2009 season as the football at the Olympics takes part in August.

Nelsen told the Sunday Mirror “Hopefully, we can organise something and make myself available because to go to an Olympics is every sportsman’s dream.

“It is pretty special.

“I think everyone given the chance would want to go to an Olympics and I certainly would want to go.

“It would be awesome just to be among all the other New Zealand athletes and see just how it’s done
.”

God is VERY important to the Rovers defence but can you really see Mark Hughes or John Williams denying him this opportunity?!?!? I can’t, and as much as we might miss him I don’t think that we should.

Meanwhile Andre Ooijer is still waiting to find out if he will be part on the Dutch squad taking part in this summers European Championships.

Marco Van Basten will be trimming his current 26-man squad down to 24 for the Finals taking place in Austria and Switzerland (starting next month) and Ooijer is understood to be one of those under threat. He is thought to be one of three defenders that has to be deduced to two, the others being Khalid Boulahrouz and Mario Melchiot.
