Nelsen: Lay Off Ince

Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen has urged the fans to cut Paul Ince some slack and give him a break.

A run of seven matches without a win has seen Rovers slip into the Premier League’s bottom three, however, the Rovers skipper doesn’t think this is a fair reflection of how things have really gone for Ince (and Rovers), with injuries hitting him (again, and Rovers) very hard but things will be turned around. The buck stops with the manager, but not everything is his fault.

Nelsen told the Lancashire Telegraph: “We’ve had situations virtually all season where the manager hasn’t been able to put out his strongest XI. I feel sorry for him.

“He’s the one people point fingers at but any manager would struggle with the luck he’s been dealt – and I mean any manager.

“He never really mentions it to us and never uses excuses. But the reality is that any manager in the position he’s in would be reminding the media about the situation.

“He takes everything on the chin. But injuries have been horrific to us.

“And we players hold the majority of responsibility, if not all of it, for what happens on the field.

The situation that we currently see Rovers in IS a combination of things, finger pointing and apportioning the blame isn’t going to change anything and I personally believe that sacking Ince (as more and more people are calling for) isn’t the right thing to do. We shouldn’t be in the position that we are, but we only have to look at the other clubs around us to see that we’re not alone among other clubs that will feel they shouldn’t be where they are!!! If we give Incey the chance (and he has more luck with injuries) I’m sure that the situation is going to improve. We only need a couple of wins and we’ll rocket up the table!
