Rovers captain Ryan Nelsen has been named as the New Zealand captain for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

This news was expected as Nelsen is the most established player of NZ nationality at the tournament – but still good news is still news hey?

Nelsen is one of potentially only five players representing Rovers at the showpiece event with Vince Grella, Brett Emerton and Lars Jacobsen also expected to take their places in their respective squads as well.

Paul Robinson could also feature for England if Fabio Capello actually picks the best keepers available to him.

Nelsen is club captain at Blackburn as well and was allowed to fly out to prepare for the World Cup early, hence his removal from the Rovers squad to face Aston Villa yesterday.
