Blackburn Rovers skipper Ryan Nelsen hopes that David Bentley remains with the club despite his wish to leave Ewood Park.

Nelsen (who along with Bentley) has returned for Pre-Season training hopes that Bentley stays with the club despite his wish to leave and a reported £17 million price tag being put on him.

Nelsen told the Lancashire Telegraph: “The club isn’t in a position where it has to sell, so it doesn’t need to.

“I guess it’s a decision the manager and the player involved has to make.

“But this is a good club and everyone is happy, so whatever happens, happens
.”

With Bents being so adamant that he sees his future away from Ewood some would think that he might be viewed in a different light by his team-mates now, but the skipper insists this isn’t the case and he remains as much a part of the squad as ever and whatever happens (if he stays or goes) Rovers WILL be the real winners!!!

The New Zealand International added: “For us, he’s a team-mate and he will remain so until the club decides to let him go, if they do.

“These things happen in the game and we try to understand where he’s coming from.

“There’s no animosity towards him. At the end of the day, it`s his decision and you can’t hold that against someone, because it’s a personal decision, and hopefully the fans will understand as well.

“He’s given very good service to Blackburn and if he does end up leaving then I think the club will be compensated very well, so it’s a win-win
.”

Personally I think he could stay as God wants but I want him to go now, he’s made it clear that he wants to move on, however, for ANYONE to suggest that the moves it looks like he might take are genuinely steps forward (for footballing reasons alone!) is wrong. Rovers HAVE matched (if not bettered) the likes of Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur over the past two/three seasons, and we WILL do this again this season so he isn’t making a significant move forward, but this would be his decision.

However, the main thing in our favour is the fact he DOES still have plenty of time on his contract, so Rovers DO hold all the cards here. Should our valuation not be met, as we DON’T need to sell we won’t. If he doesn’t like this so be it, but he then has the opportunity to either sulk and then not play if he isn’t playing to his true potential or he can carry on doing what he does best on the pitch, which will maintain the interest in him and then he will eventually get his move as our valuation would be met (if it isn’t before?) I wouldn’t want us to keep an unhappy player, but we don’t need to sell him as we don’t need to rebuild a squad if its not broken, which our squad isn’t!!!

So long as WHATEVER does happen is in the best interests of Blackburn Rovers Football Club and not the best interests of David Bentley the footballer) who despite what he has done for us we don’t owe him anything in letting him leave) I will be happy.
