Blackburn Rovers defender Ryan Nelsen (like manager Sam Allardyce before him) believes that we have a lot of positive that we can take from the Manchester United defeat on Saturday.

Rover might’ve been beaten 2-0 but we were by no means disgraced and the Rovers skipper knows this.

Nelsen told The Official Blackburn Rovers Website: “There were a lot of positives to come out of the game.

Nelsen (also like Allardyce and all of us) was amazed that Nikola Kalinic’s goal was ruled out for offside though.

He added: “I can’t believe the linesman hasn’t given our goal, it is a ridiculous decision. Niko was clearly onside by a yard. That would have meant 2-1 and we’ve got something to play for for the last few minutes.

The New Zealand international (and his Rovers teammates) were left disappointed by that decision but the pluses far outweighed the minuses so if we continue to put in performances like the one we did against Man United at Old Trafford then Nelsen feels more will go our way, particularly away from Ewood Park.

Nelsen also said: “So the guys are pretty disappointed but there were a lot of positives. We wanted to go out and really compete and we did that. A couple of things didn’t go our way but besides that it was a very good game.

“We had to step it up and if we play like this for the rest of the season away from home the majority of the results will go our way.

It’ll (the performance against Manure) count for nothing if we don’t draw from this and build on it so we’ll just need to hope that the players have taken the kind of encouragement from that match that Big Sam and God say they have!!
