Contrary to reports, Blackburn haven’t received any bids from Championship clubs, Cardiff seen as the club with most interest in Bradley Dack, and they wouldn’t be welcomed anyway – as far as the Lancashire Telegraph understands.
It had been claimed by the Sun – in a story covered by the Daily Star on Monday – Cardiff had put in a £4m offer for 11-goal midfielder Dack, also interesting Middlesbrough, Aston Villa and Leeds.
However, the LT has not only denied an offer has been turned down the report went on to say the club ‘haven’t received any bids for Dack’ and Blackburn wouldn’t ‘welcome any’ either.
Tony Mowbray has made it clear he feels the clubs’ owners ‘are decent, open people’ that he’s been able to have ‘an open, honest relationship’ with. Retaining the likes of Charlie Mulgrew and Danny Graham following Championship relegation and then bringing in the likes of Dack from Gillingham – for £750,000 in July from Gillingham – and the experienced ex-Cardiff man Peter Whittingham highlighted the ambition to make an instant return.
Dack, 24, is enjoying a fine season, admittedly after taking a little time to settle in Lancashire, and himself said, as recently as last week, how happy he was at Ewood Park, helping Rovers out of League One being his main goal.
He said: ‘Right now I’m really enjoying my football and living up north, it’s something I’d like to see out. My main goal this season is to try and get this team promoted. It took me a couple of months to settle in but it’s good up here and I enjoy coming to this place every day, I enjoy being with the boys, they’ve looked after me and it’s something I’m happy to carry on doing.’
It wouldn’t be too surprising if Championship clubs were looking at Dack, why wouldn’t they? The fact that all four of these clubs claimed to be interested – even if this has been dismissed – are in the promotion battle to make it into the Premier League could make it harder for the midfielder himself to turn down.
Then again, if Dack’s happy and settled at Ewood, enjoying his football, which he clearly is, would he really benefit that much in moving on this quickly? There’s almost certainly no point in cashing in on the midfielder now as with his help Blackburn could soon be back in the Championship anyway.
Worst case scenario, should Rovers fail to secure promotion then Dack should maintain, if not increase, his valuation and this could change in the summer, but at the moment the only focus is on promotion – we need to keep the likes of him to achieve this and I’m confident enough that’ll be the case.
