Tony Mowbray was disappointed with boss aimed at Blackburn during Monday’s victory over Bury, but wasn’t prepared to criticise the fans’ actions.
A goalless first half at Ewood Park resulted in fans voicing their displeasure with boos as the players left the field of play.
Mowbray told BBC Radio Lancashire: ‘I think it’s disappointing but you don’t want to criticise the fans. They come to see us win and be entertaining and generally at home so far this year we have.’
These boos, Mowbray went on to say showed the expectation levels at the club, acted as motivation for Blackburn to go on and complete a victory which took us from third up to top of League One.
He added: ‘As the players went down the tunnel at half-time, the fans were booing and I told them that’s the expectations of the football club. If anything it proved a motivation for the team to go and get the job done.’
Bradley Dack’s cross for Danny Graham – with his 13th of the season – saw the former Sunderland forward head Blackburn into a second half lead ahead of on-loan Newcastle forward Adam Armstrong’s decisive second.
Monday’s win took Blackburn above Wigan and Shrewsbury into top spot, both clubs have games in hand though, the Latics three of them in fact with the sides meeting on Sunday, 4th March.
It’s a good position for Rovers to be in yet the boss knows there’s still a long way to go, but is targeting the March meeting as an opportunity to ‘dent’ Wigan’s hopes, whilst boosting our own.
He said: ‘At this moment it’s not in our hands. Wigan have got three games in hand on us and they’re a very good side. What would be nice for us, building up to playing Wigan, is to go into that game knowing we could really make a dent in their push this year.’
