Blackburn Rovers are not in any hurry to conclude the contract extension talks with striker Benni McCarthy, but manager Mark Hughes remains confident these issues will be sorted in due course.

McCarthy is just one of a number of players locked in contract extension talks (along with David Bentley, Morten Gamst Pedersen and Tugay) and Hughes remains convinced that he will sign a new extended and improved deal. Talks are underway, and although Sparky admits there is no hurry, he remains confident a deal for the South African International will be agreed.

Hughes said: “The talks are still ongoing.

“We spoke to his agent this week so hopefully something will be resolved.

“There isn’t really a timescale on it
