Blackburn had been linked with Rickie Lambert earlier in the week.

In fact his release at Cardiff increased speculation Rovers could bring the former Southampton, Liverpool and England international forward to Ewood Park on a free transfer.

There is NO interest from Tony Mowbray or Blackburn in Lambert though, according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

Mowbray is desperate to add another striker(s) as the Blackburn boss is currently limited to Danny Graham and Anthony Stokes – Graham was joint top goalscorer with 12 but struggled with fitness issues and Stokes hadn’t been involved for Rovers since last year.

If Hibernian can offer up a good enough financial deal to Blackburn then Stokes could yet leave? But Mowbray will be looking to add to his attacking options regardless. However, Lambert isn’t on his list of targets.

A lack of mobility works against Lambert, 35, who would most likely command a hefty wage package too despite his advancing years. The boss is already in talks with ‘prospective targets, having already tabled bids, reports the Lancashire Telegraph but Mowbray has ‘no interest’ in the free agent.

Meanwhile, Blackburn’s pre-season got off to a winning start with a 2-1 win at National League side Barrow on Saturday.

Craig Conway’s first half goal had put Blackburn ahead but a Barrow equaliser looked as if it would see the game end in a draw – Graham grabbed an added time winner for Rovers.
