No Need For Rovers Panic?Yet!

With Blackburn Rovers currently averaging only a point a game (which is relegation form!) we do not need to worry? YET!

Our 12 points from 12 Premiership matches played will obviously (if this run continued) see us end with just 38 points, which will almost certainly leave Rovers involved in the relegation dog fight, if indeed it didn’t prove too little points? Which I have to say it would be touch and go, but don’t panic just yet!

At this exact stage of the 2004-2005 season under Graeme Souness we were even worse off! We had only 8 points from 12 Premiership matches and went on to achieve a comfortable 15th place finish easily avoiding relegation, with Mark Hughes having taken charge towards the end of 2004 when Souness left for Newcastle United (before he could be pushed if we are honest!)

The form hasn’t been that bad and on the whole we’ve generally played well as Hughes pointed out when he said:

I’d be more concerned if we weren’t getting results and playing badly as well, but that’s not the case. A little bit of our rhythm has been taken out of our game with injuries, but our form itself is not bad but we need to get back on track and the weekend will be a good place to start.

It is still very early for us, we had a great second half to the season last year and given that we are going to bring back three senior players from long term injuries in January we feel that we could still be in decent shape going into that second period.”

Rovers are notorious slow starters and the injuries we’ve had haven’t helped but I am sure we will push on and ideally sooner rather than later. Although there are still plenty of games to play with points to play for last season’s fantastic finish of sixth seems a long way off and will be very tough to repeat, won’t it? But it’s FAR TOO EARLY to give up on this yet!

Where do you see us realistically finishing now? Has this changed from your pre-season expectations? Have your say below?
