Blackburn Rovers striker Matt Derbyshire has had a highly successful loan spell with Olympiakos and it’s understood that they would like to keep him. However, no negotiations have taken place yet.

Some reports in Greece were saying that negotiations over a permanent deal for Derbyshire had already gotten underway but his agent Gary Porter has said that no talks have taken place about a deal for the England Under-21 International and wouldn’t until the end of the season, if they did at all.

Porter told skysports.com: “Matt has really enjoyed himself in Greece, but there has been no talks between both clubs and there will be none until the Premier League season finishes at the earliest.

Six goals in eleven appearances have made Derbs a success in Greece and it’s with his help that Olympiakos have clinched the Greek Title and made it into the Cup Final.

Sam Allardyce has spoken highly of Derbs recently, which suggested that he would return to Ewood Park but when you think about it (as pointed out by someone else) the fact that Allardyce allowed Derbs to leave at a time when we needed all the players that we could (particularly strikers!!!) to help stave off relegation and the fact that Big Sam will be looking to buy new players in the summer it’s not looking good for Derbs getting a staring role (maybe much of a role?) at Ewood next season so as disappointed as I’d be (as I’m a HUGE Derbs fan as we well know) I’m fully expecting him to complete a permanent move to Olympiakos if a fee can be agreed.

  • I dont think it is as clear cut as it sounds Walker – I think Sam wants to keep him. This is the agent talking here. I think he will stay…

  • I’m not convinced Mikey. He must be beginning to wonder where his chance will come from. He’s been banging in goals in Greece and his name’s been cropping up a lot for the under 21s for the last few years now – yet none of the managers have shown any commitment to bringing him on. Matty obviously loves Rovers, but how much longer is he willing to sit on the bench when he could be starting for a team in the Champions League?

  • Thsi is purely the agent saying that if Matt isnt going to play at Rovers next season, then he has options, which is cool… but with Roque all but out the door and Benni not really a favorite of Big Sam’s, then why wouldnt he play?!?!? I cant see a lad that was born down the road from Ewood and is a Rovers fan turning his back on the club so easy, although IF he wasnt assured of his place next season then I personally wouldnt blame the lad, but its obvious that we simply cannot let a talent like this go!! After all, when in recent history has an english player had such an impact abroad?? 6 in 11 games is a good return for anyone in any league but when u dont speak the language and have only been there since Jan, its just shows the raw natural talent the lad has….Big Sam – u just got to pull out the stops to make sure that he stays with us…or we will have lost out on, wot i beleive IS the next English talent

  • If he has been told he can go then fair enough but I cant see Derbyshire leaving unless he knew he wouldnt get a chance here…

  • derbyshire is a natural goalscorer, we can’t afford to lose him. in fact, big sam may want to find a striker to partner him for next season.

  • matty will be back next season, im almost certain, sam loaned him out to get him valuable experiance, and although we have been hit with mighty injuries sam thought we had enough cover, im sure he has big future at rovers and that will blossom from next season,

  • boys the rose tinted goggles are on big time with matty….no doubt this guy is rovers thru and thru but i dont thnk he has progressed as he should….He is no better than he was when he burst on to the scene and i fully expect Sam to sell him, RSC, Gally and possibly Benni to make way for his players!!!!
