No Ulterior Motive To Sav’s Absence

After Blackburn Rovers manager Mark Hughes hadn’t played Robbie Savage at all in the last three matches (despite him returning to fitness) some newspapers felt there is an ulterior motive behind this. Hughes insists there isn’t.

After returning ahead of schedule Savage has been restricted to a bench role against Fulham, Aston Villa and Newcastle United but this is merely due to the fact that Sparky is protecting him from any unnecessary risks, with him obviously feeling the time wasn’t right (or he wasn’t needed) in any of the matches (not to mention he didn’t think it fair on others if he came straight back in?) so there are NO doubts about his Rovers future whatsoever.

Hughes told The Sun: “Robbie hasn’t had a great deal of football because he’s come back very, very quickly,”

“I’ll make changes and use the squad if I can.

“His game is based on high energy and at some point maybe that will tail off.

“But I see no signs of that. Sav is a key part of the squad but must understand to get in the side now is tough
.”

Personally I think that it is good that Sav hasn’t walked straight back into the team, as this DOES put out the wrong signals anyway if someone does this. Sav WILL be back in sooner or later, but there is no ulterior motive to him not playing apart from what Sparky says.
