Now That’s What I Call Entertainment

I know this site is for football and more to the point Blackburn Rovers but I couldn’t let the day pass without a mention for the England Cricket team in the Caribbean.

This Evening I did something that I rarely, in fact almost NEVER do. That was to miss a European match on TV involving an English side, no matter who they are! Why did I do this? Because I was following the boys (England) at the Cricket World Cup (as I had been all afternoon) and boy am I glad that I did as THAT was entertainment! More so than Chelsea or Manchester United would have been? I don’t know as all I know about these matches are the results?

I know Cricket isn’t everyone’s cup of tea but despite the eventual outcome I’m glad to say that I witnessed something that is what the Cricket World Cup is all about. If more games were like the England – Sri Lanka one today it would be a much better event. You don’t want teams winning by a hundred runs or ten wickets, you want close fought matches that go to the death. And boy did this go to the death!

As usually with England in sport and major tournaments we were heroes in defeat, losing by two runs after a monumental tussle with one of the tournaments favourites. You get feed up with a heroes in defeat tag but I’ve not been as proud to be an England supporter in cricket for a LONG time. A lot of pride was restored today.

Sure, we lost and pride doesn’t turn defeat into anything else but I’ll take this. More of the same against the other teams and we WILL run them, including Australia and South Africa close in our remaining super eight fixtures. England’s World Cup isn’t over just yet… not far from it but still alive if we repeat today’s showing…
