Rovers boss Sam Allardyce has revealed that Steven N’Zonzi has been out of the side because he has not been playing or training at the same level as last year.

The Zonz enjoyed a cracking debut season playing more or less every game and stepping up to the plate to fill a void where no-one expected there to be one.

But this season he has played second fiddle to a holding midfield two of Phil ‘Superman’ Jones and Vinny ‘Yes I am actually fit now’ Grella.

The Rovers boss feels this is down to the re-emergence of the Aussie Grella but the majority of the blame lies in the court of the lanky Frenchman.

Sam is in the Daily Star saying – “Steven Nzonzi? I don`t think he has been unlucky, I just don`t think he has played to the level he played last year.

“That is the reason he hasn`t been in the side.

“Vinny, who struggled last year because of injuries, has kept himself a bit fitter and is getting in the frame a little bit more.

“That puts pressure on Steven. He has got a kick up the backside.”
