Markus Olsson’s been one of the success stories for Blackburn Rovers this season, which came when it looked like he might not have signed a new contract to stay at Ewood Park.

The Swede didn’t sign his new contract much before the season began, however, he’s played well enough this season so far and justified the faith that Gary Bowyer had in him in giving him this new contract.

Rovers dropped out of the play-off places when we lost to Sheffield Wednesday but we’d almost certainly move back into the top six with a win at Griffin Park this afternoon and the best Christmas present that Olsson could get would be for us to be in the top six.

Olsson told The Lancashire Telegraph: “That would be the best feeling.”

“We’re around the play-offs and we want to either stay there or get higher.

So congested is The Championship table that just ten points separate the top twelve sides, Derby County are top of the table but only seven points ahead of us and the twenty-six-year-old is well aware of how tight the table is but also knows we’ve missed previous chances to close the gap. Getting transfixed too much on the table though could be dangerous, we’ve got to keep focused and get the results.

He added: “We had the chance before, when we’ve drawn some games that we should have won.

“It feels like we’re so close, we’re just a few points behind even the top.

“We should have been in the top six a couple of weeks ago, but we can’t be thinking about that too much – just keep on playing and hopefully we will be there for Christmas.

If we can remain there of thereabout around Christmas this gives us a boost going into the New Year, however it’ll be our League position around February or March that’ll tell us more, where we finish in May is when it really counts though!!
