Markus Olsson looks set to leave Blackburn, which is something he had always said he didn’t want but with his contract drawing closer to an end and a new deal nowhere nearer being agreed (and not looking likely to happen) he could leave on a free in the summer so rather than allow this Rovers are set to cash in on him with a fee ‘in the region’ of £1m being suggested.

Derby have long-term been linked with Olsson who are thought to be ‘very near’ to competing the signing of the 27-year-old with Paul Lambert telling the Lancashire Telegraph the money on offer means it’ll be a deal likely to be done.

‘Obviously Markus is out of contract and, if we get the money, then it’s going to be a really good deal for the club because he is out of contract and he can walk away for nothing (in the summer). The money is good for somebody who is going to be out of contract.’

The Swedish international has recently lost his place in the starting XI to Tommy Spurr.
