Blackburn Rovers youngster Martin Olsson is targeting a place as a first-team regular next season.

Olsson, a product of the Rovers Academy who signed a new four-year contract last week has started making inroads into the first-team over the past 12-months and is now targeting becoming more of a first-team regular next season, but in order to do that he will have to do battle with Stephen Warnock (who was also rewarded with a new contract) for the left-back berth.

Olsson told the Lancashire Telegraph: “I’m very happy to have signed a new deal; it is what I’ve been working hard for, to get a contract with the first team.

“I’ve been doing well, I’ve been working hard, and now I’m delighted to get that first-team contract.

“I’ve been in the squad a lot of times, and on the bench too in some games, so my aim for next season is to be more involved and play more first-team games.

“I’m learning all the time in training and I’m delighted that the manager has shown this faith in me
.”

19-year-old Under-21 Swedish International Olsson was named the Rovers Young Player of the Year on Sunday, at the annual Rovers Awards night.
