Mark Hughes has said that he would like Paul Gallagher to stay and fight for his first team spot this season rather than go on loan again.

Earlier this week Vital Blackburn reported that one of the clubs promising young forwards Matt Derbyshire could again be loaned out, which is still likely but another 21 year-old Scottish International Gallagher is very much wanted for the coming season.

Talking on the official website Hughes said.

‘With regards to Gally, he will stay with us this year because we want to reap the benefits with the year he’s had out.”

Following Gallagher`s highly successful loan spell at Championship side Stoke last season, for whom he top scored he went on to add.

‘He’s looked bigger, stronger and better, so he’ll be very much part of the first team squad this year.”

Speaking on highly rated Derbyshire, who can only gain from the experiences of being loaned out he had the following to say.

“Matt certainly helped to raise his profile with his exploits at Wrexham, but he needs to test himself at a higher level so we may well look at that situation.’

With the young forwards not to mention the defenders the club have coming through the Rovers set-up the future looks very promising for the club.
