Former Rovers player Ossie Ardiles is backing new boy Mauro Formica to adapt well to the English game and having establish himself as a top player fopr his new club.

Ardiles knows all about the rigours of English football having made the move himself back in the 80’s and he sees Mauro’s biggest challenge being the adaption to English culture not the on pitch bravado.

Ardiles spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph – “There should be no problems about the physical nature of the Premier League. The Argentinian league is also very physical. Mauro is a skilful type player and then he will be used to getting a few kicks.

“If you see football in Argentina, it is also very physical. Players do not mind a battle and they relish it. Look at Carlos Tevez. We already have the mentality to fit in on the field.

“The club he comes from is a top club and has produced a lot of world class players. Premier League football is different to football in Argentina, it was different in my day, but good players adapt quickly and I am sure Mauro will be able to do that in England.

“That will be no problem. Not every player comes from Argentina and makes a success of it in England but the main reason for not being a success is a failure to adapt to the new culture.”

Mauro is set for a run out in an arranged friendly with our friends at Everton this week.
