Parkes wants trust over takeover

Rovers legend Tony Parkes has urged fans of Blackburn Rovers to trust the board and trust the club as talk of takeover continues to engulf the club.

Parkes now the current Walker regime and the the club better than most and has backed everyone to do what is right for the club if the club changes hands.

Indian businessman Saurin Shah is understood to be the front runner to takeover but there is rumoured to be more than one party in contention.

Whatever happens though, Parkes is confident that the club will be a priority.

Parkes spoke to the Lancashire Telegraph and said – “Football is changing these days. Clubs are losing their identity because they are being sold to people who don`t care about the history or tradition.

“I don`t think Blackburn will do that though. Ever since I have been connected to the club, the people in charge have always had the club`s best interests at heart and that is the same today.

“Every chairman I have ever known at Ewood Park has been focused on making sure the club is still around in 50 years time and that hasn`t changed.

“Of course there are concerns when people from abroad are in talks with your club. You do wonder what their motives are, but this won`t happen lightly. Everything will be done to make sure it is right for Rovers, you can be sure of that.”

Things appear to have gone quiet on the big news front in the last week or so but Shah has revealed that they have signed an Non Disclosure Agreement to keep all aspects of the deal secret – meaning no news is the only thing that can happen!!!

Parkes, however is confident that whilst the days of Jack Walker are over that a new happy medium can be found.



Parkes continued – “You look at the mess Liverpool look to have got in with the Americans and Portsmouth over their takeover. More and more clubs are getting into trouble after being bought by people.

“When Jack Walker bought into Blackburn, he did so for the right reasons. He did it because he loved the club and the town. There are a lot of people from abroad who don`t have a clue about the history of the club in question.

“Sadly there aren`t those sort of people around anymore. You are talking about too much money and the chances of Rovers finding a fan who just wants to invest in their club are slim to say the least.

“But they are short of money. The Walker Trust want to sell and Rovers need a buyer to keep them going in the Premier League. The Walker Trust, John Williams, the board, they are not just going to sell it to just anyone.

“That is probably why things seem to be taking such a long time. Everything is being done to ensure it is the right move for the club. Everyone will do everything they can to make sure Jack Walker`s legacy lives on. If the Indians do buy the club then I am sure they will be right for us.”
