Rovers are on the board!

After a long start to the summer with numerous rumours and false dawns Rovers have finally set up their first proper deal.

Hugo Mariano Pavone is all but a Blackburn Rovers player after agreeing terms with the club and passing a medical.

Sky Sports are reporting – ‘Blackburn Rovers have agreed terms with Argentine ace Mariano Pavone, understands.

The 29-year-old striker arrived in England on Monday and confirmed talks were under way.

Pavone has now finalised his deal after also passing a medical at Ewood Park and is now set to put pen-to-paper on a three-year deal.

It is expected that Blackburn will now confirm the deal in the coming days before officially presenting him on Monday.’

He even has a British representative called Barry McIntosh who has confirmed Pavone’s delight at his Ewood switch.

McIntosh told Sky Sports – ‘Mariano is delighted to get his chance in English football, he has spoken to several clubs but he was particularly impressed by Steve Kean’

‘Steve made him feel very welcome and explained his plans, and Mariano was delighted with what he heard.

‘He is now looking forward to the next chapter with an ambitious club like Blackburn.’

  • Good to hear that he was particularly impressed by Steve Kean. I did think at the end of last season that the players were well-motivated which can only have been down to the manager. Maybe this gives the lie to the suggestions that Kean offers little value as manager.

  • “He was particularly impressed by Steve Kean”
Good to hear but please excuse my skepticism, this was a publicity release put out by his agent. It was a free transfer so his agent has to receive his cut some other way, Steve Kean needs some good publicity. I may well be wrong but which other clubs were even trying to persuade Pavone to sign? wasn’t it more or less ‘Hobsons choice’. The press release is hardly going to say that the only clubs that wanted him weren’t prepared to pay as much in wages so has decided on Rovers.
I hope that he has just been signed as a squad striker.
If he is being viewed as our number one striker, it’s a gamble.
I worry that his goals scored statistic is no where near good enough for the Premier league.
Reports have been saying for a while now that we have lost out on Cisse to Shalke, but he has not put pen to paper yet and Shalke may need to sell a player to complete. I wish Rovers would make a definite bid to force the issue, he is one of a very few strikers that even at £10m is still value for money. Goals scored statistic last season in the Bundesliga was fantastic. Exactly what we need at Ewood.
I have not been critical of Rovers transfer window yet and yes, there is still time before the window closes. I just hope that a pattern will not emerge of us signing 30 year oldish averageish players, rather than spending the cash ‘available!’ on younger players with talent.
I thought 20 year old Doran was going out on loan but it is reported as a transfer, what are anyones views of that?

  • I really can’t excited about this, his stats are not particularly impressive, he’s on a free and he’s never played in the premier league. If we wanted a free signing why didn’t we try for Demba Ba at least he has scored goals in the prem. He also talks utter ********* “an ambitious club like Blackburn” boy is he in for a shock, the good ones are leaving and we are signing any old tat on a free or very cheap.

  • What is particularly galling is the fact that we were hopeless up front last season and SK’s answer is to resign Benjani and an short Argentinian that is neither prolific nor experienced in the prem, a truly outstanding way to address the team’s shortcomings.

  • Worryingly, I was listening to Talksport and their South American expert was saying that we’d be better off with Roque Santa Cruz than Pavone… Oh jeez!

  • However, he wants to play for us, which is a plus! I will back him to the hilt – I hope he gels with the team and gets scoring – welcome Pavone.

  • He’s a perfectly capable player by all accounts and despite what some are saying he is NOT our main striker for next season – where’s the harm cause I can’t see it???

  • Que the buses, We wait for weeks then they all come at Once, Sensible signing, and pleased with it, Think he will prove to be a great signing, I do remember when we bought Tugay after .bought a duck egg, Well we all know how that story unfolded.

  • This signing IMO is a positive one, not negative. Yes he’s free but so what? Would we rather have another £7m+ Grabbi or Kevin Davies in the team? I know i wouldn’t. At least he wants to play for us which I think is very important. I would like to think that now we have got Pavone signed up for free the owner’s might be happy to spend a few extra quid for the likes of Cissé or Vucinic as a main striker?? Surely they realise the main priority is a top marksman… Who knows but it’s a start.

  • Dunno how my post ended up mixed up, It was supposed to read when we bought Tugay instead of Berkovic, lots of people said we had signed a useless Duck Egg, Without seeing him play, Dnt think 1 person could say that now about the Turkish delight, Pavone will be a similar impact signing

  • Cant say his name rings any bells for me and im not clued up on his stats either but hes here and hes gonna pull on a rovers shirt so welcome to Ewood Mr Pavone.

  • Pavone is a good player, he has better ability than most/all of our strikers we have at the moment even though his goal scoring record isnt the best he will help the likes of Rochina and Formica also when we sign another striker hopefully in Cisse though he does look destined for Shalke now, Pavone will create compitition for the starting 11 which we dont have at all at tho mo

  • A definite positive. Looks capable and sounds like he’s up for it. Yes, I do hope we sign someone to play alongside him, but I’m pleased we’re moving now.

  • benjani, robets, pavone and a big name striker next season… kalinic will go this window, i hope the lad does well for us
