Rovers are close to adding to their squad with news of two imminent arrivals at the club with both deals expected to be completed before the end of the week.

The lads in question are Anthony Modeste, who is due to arrive on loan from French side Bordeaux and young Tim Payne who has come recommended by fellow New Zealander Ryan Nelsen.

Modeste is a rather gangly looking striker in the mould of a Kenwyne Jones type and Payne is a young 18 year old forward who was quite widely chased after from various club sides across Europe.

Anthony is set to join on a six month loan deal to help Rovers out in a weak area of the squad with Yakubu suspended for 3 games and Jason Roberts unable to play because of the now famous ‘contract issues’.

That leaves on Cracking Shaft as a recognised striker so Modeste addition will be most welcome.

Nelsen passed comment on his fellow countryman Payne on Sky Sports – ‘He has done really well and it has all been on Tim’s back’

‘Sure, I have got him the opportunity there but they are not giving him a contract because of me.

‘He had to play well, plain and simple, and they have watched him a lot.’

The Lancashire Telegraph are also updating us that Rovers are set to reject Chris Samba’s transfer request with yesterday’s transfer request not altering the club’s stance about holding on to the captain of the first team.

The one thing we at Vital Blackburn do know though is that the club policy hasn’t changed with the outlook for this window… selling needs to take place to balance the books. Only a small portion of incoming funds can be used to buy permanent additions as replacements.
