Blackburn Rovers winger Morten Gamst Pedersen sees a turning point in the clubs season, starting with the match against Wigan Athletic on Saturday.

After failing to win in our last ten matches (losing the last six) we are now firmly in the relegation mire but the Norwegian believes that Rovers can take some heart from the showing in defeat against Liverpool last Saturday and fixtures are coming up that could see Rovers move up the table again, with the club still fully unified despite reports to the contrary.

Pedersen told the Lancashire Telegraph: “It will be hard against Wigan (on Saturday) but we believe, we’ll work hard and we’re going to stay together.

“We’ve got Wigan, Stoke, Sunderland, City, Fulham, Newcastle and I could say the rest.

“There are good opportunities coming up now and we did well against Wigan away (last season), we scored a lot of goals but we didn’t win (suffered a 5-3 defeat).

“It’s a local derby so there will be a little extra on that but we’ll be up for that game and if we can get a win it will be a massive change for us and that will be the turning point
.”

Nobody is too good to go down (something that some clubs feel) and Pedersen insists that Rovers are not developing that mentality with Premier League status not being taken as granted by anyone and although Wigan won’t be easy at all it represents a good starting point.

He added: “We have to see where we are and the table doesn’t lie.

“We’re second bottom but there are still loads of games.

“You compare Liverpool and Wigan and everyone will say Wigan is an easy game but it’s not an easy game.

“We have to realise where we are when we go there and it’s not going to be easy. If we can push the line a few more per cent up, we can definitely get a result.

Wigan is a near must win match, defeat could very well prove the final straw for Incey, a draw wouldn’t be the end of the world but a win could prove a platform for the next level of matches against teams that are all very much beatable.
