Blackburn Rovers striker Roque Santa Cruz’s injury (sustained in the defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday afternoon) isn’t as bad as first feared.

The Paraguayan International picked up a knock to his Achilles as he equalised (Wolves had gone 1-0 up only for Matt Derbyshire to equalise, they then went ahead again before Santa Cruz levelled things once more, before Wolves went on to win the Molineux encounter 4-2) and had to be taken off with it initially feared that he could miss the start of the season but Paul Ince has moved to quash these fears.

Ince told Sky Sports News: “Roque’s fine. He got a knock on his Achilles.

“I had my heart in my mouth for a minute sat up there in the directors’ box.

“I’ve had a chat with the physio and it’s going to be two or three days, but he’ll be ready come the start of the campaign.

“Roque’s 19 goals were very important for us in how well we did last year. He’s fine and he’s all geared for the start of the new season
