James “Jay” McEveley started his career as a youngster at Everton but found his ways to Blackburn Rovers as part of the academy side.

A strong and mature left-back Jay made his break through into the Rovers first team in the 2002-2003 season. Making his full debut in a League Cup tie in November 2002, the then under-17 Rovers captain subsequently went on to make nine Premiership appearances.

Having represented England at under-20 and under-21 levels, playing in the 2003 World Youth Championships, McEveley switched alliance in 2006 when deciding his International future lies with Scotland; now playing for them at under-21 level, making his “B” debut in November 2006.

Loan spells at Burnley in 2003 and Ipswich Town in 2005 have given Jay more valuable first team experience but he will be looking to further his claims in the 2006-2007 season.

With first team experience already behind and Jay looking very comfortable when he has played, when Lucas Neill leaves, be this January or the summer of 2007 Jay will be hoping to be one of the first in line to replace him in the left-back position.
