Point, Should It Have Been More?

To bounce back from the poor Portsmouth performance with a good show against Everton at Ewood Park pleased Mark Hughes, but he would have hoped for more following a number of chances, particularly in the first half.

With time running out it looked as though Rovers would start the first half of a possible double over Everton, who beat Rovers twice last season without conceding a goal. Speaking to Radio Rovers Hughes said:

“We had the vast majority of the game. Obviously in the last ten-fifteen minutes they tried to put the pressure on and they got their reward for that.”

“But up to that point I never felt we were any danger, we got our noses in front and were playing some good stuff.”

Rovers couldn’t really have played much worse than they did against Portsmouth at Fratton Park on Saturday, so a good showing and a point to get the season started is a step in the right direction. Hughes went on to say:

“Overall it was a much better performance from Saturday and we take some credit for that. We’ll look at the performance and we’ll look at the positives, but there was a lot of very good stuff played.”

“Obviously it was disappointed to concede when we did, but we are off and running, we’ve a point on the board and our season has started now.”

The season continues on Sunday with the LIVE SKY Sports clash with defending Champions Chelsea. As if the game wouldn’t be tough enough as it is, Rovers take on Chelsea who themselves go into the game off the back of a defeat to Middlesbrough.
