Preston North End manager Alan Irvine has expressed an interest in signing Blackburn Rovers defender Eddie Nolan on a permanent basis.

Nolan is currently on a three-month loan with the Championship side but Irvine has already expressed an interest in taking the youngster to Deepdale on a permanent basis in January.

Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post: “Eddie is a player we are hoping is going to turn out to be a really good signing for us in the long term.

“He has an excellent pedigree and he is someone who we would certainly be interested in bringing here full time.

“But he is not one for right now unless the situation demands – he is here on loan with a view to something more permanent if everything works out.

The Irish youngster has been a player that we hoped to see come through the ranks into the first-team at Ewood Park but instead of moving forward in the pecking order he seems to be slipping back, so unfortunately it could be that we will sell Nolan?!?!
