Professional Rovers Deal For Mahoney

Toward the end of last week Blackburn Rovers secured the services of young forward Connor Mahoney.

Such is the highly rated nature of the now 17-year-old he was handed his debut at just 16-years and 337-days (becoming our Blackburn’s third youngest debutant) by Gary Bowyer against of all people Premier League giants Manchester City in the FA Cup Third Round replay in January.

Mahoney signed this first professional contract on his 17th Birthday and the former Accrington Stanley youngster (not that he’s old now of course) will be hoping to play a big part in Rovers long-term future and I dare say that he will and I look forward to seeing this in the years ahead.

Jason Rovers is someone with an Ewood Park history, however, Roberts was very much at the other end of his footballing career with Reading. He’s now actually called time on his professional career after failing to recover from injury.

JR will do well for himself now that his career is over but it’s never nice, whatever stage of the career, that you have this decision taken from you.
